Carlisle City. Sustainable Carlisle is a very active community organisation working on several fronts to promote sustainable living including a local food service, adaption to climate change and action on refugees. SCCLT sees housing as closely related to these activities. The housing group has developed a vision for a low environmental impact community combining affordable housing, renewable energy, food growing, and communal facilities. The aspiration of the group is to create truly affordable housing that breaks free of the current housing crisis especially for those on low incomes. The group are currently exploring two possible sites for cross subsidy funded affordable homes and other communal facilities.
